radical admiration series/ artist book
>>>dialogue between the artists
Our current project is the creation of a painting series introducing female, feminist, queer and/or female identified/dis-identified positions and practices in the artfield. In this work, we mainly select and introduce those artists, who we admire dearly, and who we believe ought to be known by a larger audience as well. We hope to give people access to the amazing content that feminist art provides. In particular, we focus on artists who are still very much neglected or marginalized in both mainstream art world and in educational contexts. Our idea is to make a book out of all your admirations.
The project aims to negotiate and engage with the themes of admiration, empowerment, representation and self-care. The idea is to create a painting (which later on will be featured as a full page spread in a book format) for each artist that is representative of their work, introducing their ideas, works, and details within the broader context of the art world and society. At the same time the image is playful and it inscribes us in the act of admiration. After doing some research, negotiating with and reflecting upon mutual and individual desires, understandings, and relations we more or less merge the process into a painted collage. We also include our desire and subjectivity within the image.
Our radical admirations so far: Elaine Sturtevant, Martha Wilson, Yayoi Kusama, Jutta Koether, Zanele Muholi, Mmakgabo Mapula Helen Sebidi, Gabriele Stötzer, Polvo de Gallina Negra, Lee Lozano, Oreet Ashery and Vaginal Davis.
Bilderbuch Radikale Bewunderung
